Should we get a bottle?

Should we get the bottle? I mean, we’re already here…

— Everyone, probs

Okay, so it’s Monday. And that’s enough a reason for me. A gal pal and I decide its time for a wine, so we head for a local wine bar. We try a 2009 Vintage French Champagne. I can’t remember the name because to be honest it wasn’t the best champs I have had. My friend liked it though. But the real winner here is the bottle we got to take home (and drink in our trackies). It is a NV (non-vintage for the beginners) Chardonnay and Pinot Noir by Cofield. Not your traditional cork situation – opens with a bottle cap. Far less exciting. It gets a zero on the ‘poppin bottles’ category. Do not recommend this wine for a celebration. But for a Monday, I am into it. It is extremely easy to drink – like, dangerously so. We go through the bottle pretty quickly, and it is just the two of us. You could take this to pre-dranks and all your babes would drink it. No complaints. Flavour-wise it is slightly acidic, and the taste of green apple is pretty strong. Very smooth and on the sweeter side – but not super sweet. I am not a fan of sweet wines, far prefer a dry bubble (Brut to Brut Sauvage), so it is definitely not polarising. The main take away here is that this wine is not for the celebratory pop of the bottle – but it is a great drop for sharing, especially when you have no clue what everyone drinks (don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink bubbly wine, obviously). Also, it isn’t vegan if that is your thing. I give this 3.5 (non)corks out of 5. That’s pretty high since it doesn’t even have a cork. When I ask my friend she says ‘Hmm let me have another sip’, we have been drinking it for 20 minutes by that point, so that’s your hint that it isn’t a memorable wine. But she takes her sip and says exactly what I was thinking – 3.5 out of 5.
